Slow trip up the East Coast

Debby’s meandering and slow journey along the Southeast Coast continues today, bringing more waves ashore.

Although tropical systems are known for being major wind producers, this system will be remembered for it copious rainfall. Debby has already produced more than 10 inches of rain along the South Carolina coast, including Charleston, and it hasn't even stopped yet.

Over the next several days, this tropical system will begin to move northward and sweep downpours across the Carolinas into the Virginia Tidewater.

Several inches of rainfall will bring a renewed flood risk while onshore flow will kick up some local coastal flooding and high waves along the Hatteras beaches northward.

Later Thursday into early Friday, it will bring downpours into the central Appalachians and the Mid-Atlantic as it merges with another system moving across the Northeast. Heavy rain will continue into Saturday with a flood risk developing later Friday through Saturday.

Weather & Radar meteorologists will be providing updates for the next several days as the flood threat grows.
